Annabel Strickland,CNP
Holistic Nutritionist
My name is Annabel, a holistic nutritionist based in the West end of Toronto.
I have a BA in Economics, am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and a Metabolic Balance Coach
I have a passion for food and cooking and spent 5 years running a small catering company, called Bon Vivant. I have taken these skills and created healthy recipes and menus that I want to share with you. I realize how overwhelming it can be to walk into a grocery store and not know what to buy when you want to eat healthier. We end up frustrated and buy the things we have always bought out of convenience
My goal is to empower people to feel healthier by building a personalized nutrition plan. Nutrition counselling is the first step, and we will work together with small dietary changes to make that happen.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is insulin resistance?
Insulin resistance is a condition where the body’s cells don’t respond effectively to insulin, a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels. As a result, the body requires more insulin to keep blood sugar levels stable, often leading to high blood sugar and an increased risk of conditions like type 2 diabetes.
What does the GI Map test for?
The GI-MAP (Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus) test analyzes the gut microbiome by identifying various bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites in the digestive tract. It assesses digestive function, inflammation, and immune response markers, providing insights into gut health, potential infections, and imbalances that can impact overall health.
How does the Metabolic Balance work?
Metabolic Balance addresses insulin resistance by creating a personalized nutrition plan that focuses on balanced meals and whole foods, designed to stabilize blood sugar and reduce insulin spikes. This approach supports improved metabolism, better energy levels, and sustainable weight management, helping to restore insulin sensitivity over time.
How do I deal with bloating and digestive issues?
As a holistic nutritionist, I often address digestive issues through natural approaches like personalized dietary adjustments, adding probiotics and fiber for gut health, reducing inflammatory foods, managing stress, and supporting digestive enzymes to improve overall digestion and nutrient absorption.Testing using the GI Map or food sensitivity testing also is discussed.
What testing do you do for hair loss?
Typical testing for hair loss includes:
- Hormone Panel – Checks for hormonal imbalances, like thyroid issues, elevated androgens, or low estrogen levels, which can contribute to hair loss.
- Nutrient Deficiency Tests – Assesses levels of key nutrients like iron, vitamin D, zinc, and B vitamins, which are essential for healthy hair.
- Thyroid Function Tests – Identifies thyroid disorders (e.g., hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism) that can lead to hair thinning.
- DHEA and Cortisol Levels – Evaluates stress hormones, as high levels of cortisol and DHEA can impact hair growth.
- Scalp Biopsy – Examines hair follicles under a microscope to identify specific scalp conditions or autoimmune issues.
